Investing In The Future
Spring is here and I think all of us can agree that it snuck up on us. We’ve approached the one-year anniversary of the month our world was turned upside down. So much of our lives, routines, and the things we value most may have changed in some shape or form.
At AFFCU, we pride ourselves on providing our members and the community with excellent service. One thing that did not change this past year was our commitment to assisting important organizations, events, and nonprofits. Our goal is to be more than “your financial institution,” we hope to be a pillar in the community and for you and your loved ones.
During the recent 68th Annual Membership Meeting, the credit union awarded $25,000 in scholarships to five bright and well accomplished young men and women. We established the AFFCU scholarship program as another way to provide assistance to your family and the community.
Our scholarship committee has a difficult time each year, as they narrow down their selection. So many of our young members are driven, and it only seems right that they are rewarded for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, community, and on the field. I’m positive the scholarship recipients of years past, present and future will go on to do great things.
We hope to provide the children in your life with a strong financial foundation they’ll need at every stage of their life. Whether they are growing their savings accounts each time they deposit their allowance or learning to manage their checking account after earning their first paycheck and as they continue into adulthood. We will be there for them.
We believe there is more than a dollar amount when it comes to investing in your child’s future. It’s about giving them the resources needed to do all the big things in their lifetime.

Build Strong Savings Habits for Your Child
National Credit Union Youth Month was created to show youngsters the importance of building a solid financial future by saving. Together, we can show our children how to build successful financial skills, habits, and attitudes towards saving. The best way to get started is to open a savings account for them!
At AFFCU, we have an account for everyone no matter the age. For kids 12 years and younger, our Coindexter Kid’s account is the one for them. Your child will receive a free membership to the Coindexter Club website, with interactive games and videos that allow them to explore and learn valuable money lessons.
For teens, ages 13-17, teach them money managing basics by opening a free JetSpace Teen Club Savings Account for them. Your teen will receive access to AFFCU’s digital banking services and graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for a scholarship awarded by AFFCU.
Have your child or teen deposit a minimum of $101 into their Coindexter Kids Club or JetSpace Teen account and they will earn a one-time deposit of $10 into their account on us.
1 Can be a single deposit of $10, or several deposits throughout the month of April for a total of $10.
Free Weekly Credit Reports Extended
Last year, the nation’s three credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and Transunion, decided to provide Americans with free weekly access to their credit report as a response to the financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. A year has passed and many people still feel anxious about their financial health, leading the agencies to extend this helpful service until April 20, 2022.
Regularly checking your credit report plays a crucial role in helping you manage your finances. Your credit report contains information about your credit and payment history, which financial institutions and businesses review when you apply for loans or other lines of credit.
To get your free reports, visit AnnualCreditReport.com. When reviewing your credit report, be sure to correct any errors you find by notifying the credit reporting agencies directly. If you owe money, reach out to the business and ask about postponing your payments, payment plans, or temporary forbearance.
