About AFFCU

Our Story

In 1952, ten servicemen at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, pooled together $5 each to open Lackland Federal Credit Union—what would later become Air Force Federal Credit Union (AFFCU). This determined group operated out of a one-room office on the base, with part-time hours and part-time employees.

Within one year, that ten-person operation gained 853 members, and AFFCU now serves almost 52,000 members across the globe—both in and out of the military.

Integrity

At AFFCU, we believe in integrity first. We exist to serve our members, not to make a profit. Our earnings are returned to you, the member-owners, in higher interest rates on deposits and lower loan rates and fees. You can always count on us to do what’s best for you.

We know that you need a credit union you can count on, so our employees live by the motto “Service before self.”

AFFCU is committed to be your one financial partner. As such we go above and beyond the call of duty to meet our members’ needs. We take the time to talk to our members, listen to their concerns, and answer any and all questions they may have about their finances or our policies.

Membership Eligibility

We make joining AFFCU easy. You just have to meet one of these eligibility requirements:

Live, work (or regularly conduct business in), worship, or attend school, or have a business or other legal entity located within qualified areas of Bexar County, Texas.
Eligibility Map

Family members or persons who reside in the household of an existing AFFCU member or person who qualifies for membership.

Honorably discharged veterans residing in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Mississippi.

Active duty, reservist, or National Guard and assigned to, stationed at, or working at a United States Government installation, facility, or unit, afloat or ashore in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, or Mississippi.

Members, volunteers or employees working for or are paid from one of the following eligible companies, organizations, or churches.
Member Eligibility List

Individuals who live, work (or regularly conduct business in), worship, or attend school, or have a business or other legal entity located within the following Mississippi counties: Clay, Lowndes, and Oktibbeha.

Members of the Airman Heritage Foundation. Foundation membership is open to anyone. One-time membership dues in the amount of $25 are required.
